THE
AMERICAN DREAM
Motel, Mattydale, Syracuse, NEW YORK
size: 360mm heigh, 240mm width
construction: styrene sheet, foamex board
finish: acrylic, ink, oil paint
The sign appears to have been reused as you can still read Diner underneath the overpainted Motel. I suspect the sign has long gone now. The level of decay also gives clues as to where, geographically it is, as the state of New York experiences extremes of weather conditions, from harsh winters to blistering summers which takes its toll on signs. As opposed to signs in the more western States such as Nevada and New Mexico where the lack of moisture tends to preserve rather than weather.
