THE
AMERICAN DREAM
Donut shop, Godfrey, ILLINOIS
size: 730mm height, 320mm width
construction: polystyrene, mdf, styrene sheet, foamex board
finish: acrylic, ink, oil paint
The majority of the sculptures are based on real individual signs that exist somewhere in the USA, but this is an exception where it is an amalgamation of two, even three different signs.
This Des Moines Mister Donut was last known as Donut King. The "Mister" was removed from the sign and remained until the end. It was still there in 2016. But, by 2017, the building and sign were gone. This formed the basis of the sign, whereas the 'Mister Donut' is replaced with the proper branding and logotype.
The Donut is based on two separate signs at different locations, so the artwork is not replicated but
unique on both facets.
